1000 German Words PDF: Use It as a Map
Why large word lists are useful references, not the best daily lesson.
A 1000-word PDF is a map
A 1000 German words PDF can be helpful because it shows the size of the beginner vocabulary path. It is not helpful if you try to memorize it straight through.
The first words should become usable in sentences. The later words can wait until you meet them in reading, listening, or practice.
Use layers
A better approach is to study in layers. Move from recognition to sentence use before you add a large new batch.
- Opening set: build short sentence memory.
- Next 400: add everyday nouns, verbs, places, and actions.
- Next 500: use the list as a reading reference.
When to print it
Print the 1000-word list when you want a reference you can mark. For daily study, keep the working group much smaller.
